History
A statewide Housing Task
Force in its 1988 report, “A Decent Home for Every Mississippian,”
recommended that the State create a hub agency for housing. As a result,
the Legislature established the Mississippi Home Corporation (MHC) in 1989
as the legal successor in interest to the Mississippi Housing Finance Corporation
as a government instrumentality, separate and apart from the State, charged
with raising funds from private investors to finance the acquisition, construction
and rehabilitation of residential housing for persons of low to moderate
income within the State. MHC is self supporting. The state of Mississippi
does not provide funds to pay for MHC’s administrative operations.
MHC has a Legislative Oversight Committee consisting of members from both
the Senate and House of Representatives, and is guided by a nine (9) member
Board of Directors.
